This test is a rapid test that detects the presence of infectious agent in nasal secretions and displays a visible result. It is one test (1 nasal swab) that provides a result for Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). To administer the test a sample is taken using a swab specific to nasal sampling. The flocked end of the swab is inserted into a nostril approximately 1 to 1.5 cm and spinning it in place.

This test has been proven effective by extensive testing of samples that have been identified as positive or negative by an alternate accepted diagnostic method. Performance of these tests are reported as measurements of Sensitivity, the ability to correctly identify a positive sample as positive, and Specificity, the ability to correctly identify a negative sample as negative. Further testing has been performed to ensure no cross-reactivity with infectious agents other than those specifically targeted.

Fresh Nasal Swabs (compared to culture): Sensitivity 92.3%, Specificity 93.5%

Consider testing yourself or your child if you/they are experiencing the following symptoms:

  • fever
  • cough
  • muscle aches and pain
  • chills
  • fatigue (tiredness)
  • loss of appetite
  • sore throat
  • runny or stuffy nose

Additional symptoms for children:

  • not drinking or eating as usual
  • not waking up or interacting with others
  • irritable (not wanting to play or be held)
  • diarrhea
  • nausea and vomiting

The RSV Rapid Test performs best when used on people who have symptoms that are likely to be caused by the specific target microbe (virus or bacteria). Therefore, Rockdoc recommends that only symptomatic people, meaning people experiencing any of the symptoms listed in the “Is the RSV Rapid Test right for my or my child’s symptoms?” are tested.

There is no minimum age for the TRU RSV rapid test. This test is gentle and safe for any age.

For children who may be resistant to a nasal swab, our practitioners will make two attempts to collect a sample. It is the responsibility of the parent to know if the child can complete the test prior to purchase. If the test cannot be completed no refund will be issued.

About Rockdoc

All of the doctors and nurses working with Rockdoc are licensed to practice in at least one Canadian province, and often more than one province. Rockdoc works with a range of healthcare practitioners including laboratory technologists, first aiders, emergency medical responders, paramedics, nurses, and doctors. In all situations we assure that the staff member our clients or patients interact with have the right training, experience, and skills for the services and care that our clients and patients require. Rockdoc has created our own training program called The School of Rockdoc that specifically teaches the background and skills required to provide services to our clients. After a practitioner has completed the School of Rockdoc with a minimum grade, they then receive hands on training with a mentor who confirms that the practitioner passes a proficiency evaluation relevant to the services they will be providing.

Rockdoc team members have conducted hundreds of thousands of sample collections, point of care tests, and Telehealth proctored tests like the RSV Rapid Test. Rockdoc has created our own training program called The School of Rockdoc that specifically teaches the background and skills required to conduct these tests both in-person and via Telehealth. After a practitioner has completed the School of Rockdoc with a minimum grade, they then receive hands on training with a mentor who confirms that the practitioner passes a proficiency evaluation with the specific test. Only then can a healthcare practitioner provide services to a client or patient.

14 years. Rockdoc was formally incorporated in November of 2008 and has been providing a range of services to our clients since. Our principals have been in active medical and nursing practice in Canada for 30 years, since as far back as 1992.
