This test is a rapid test that detects the presence of infectious agent in nasal secretions and displays a visible result. To administer the test a sample is taken using a swab specific to nasal sampling, which is the narrower of the swabs provided. The padded end of the swab is inserted into a nostril approximately 1 to 1.5 cm and spinning it in place.

This test has been proven effective by extensive testing of samples that have been identified as positive or negative by an alternate accepted diagnostic method. Performance of these tests are reported as measurements of Sensitivity, the ability to correctly identify a positive sample as positive, and Specificity, the ability to correctly identify a negative sample as negative. Further testing has been performed to ensure no cross-reactivity with infectious agents other than those specifically targeted. For influenza testing, the device is assessed annually against currently circulating strains to ensure they are still detectable.

COVID-19: Sensitivity 93.8%, Specificity 100%
Flu A: Sensitivity 91.4%, Specificity 95.7%
Flu B: Sensitivity 87.6%, Specificity 95.9%

This device is a rapid antigen test that detects the presence of infectious agent oral secretions and displays a visible result. To administer the test a sample is taken using a swab specific to oral sampling. An oral sample is taken using the more bulbous swab and wiping it on the tonsil area at the back of the mouth near the throat opening.

Strep A test -96.2% Accurate/Sensitive in identifying positive samples. It was 98.7% Accurate/Specific in identifying negative samples.

The microbes (bacteria and viruses) related to Influenza A/B, Covid-19, and Strep Throat (Strep A) produce many overlapping symptoms making it impossible to confirm a diagnosis and determine the appropriate course of treatment without first testing.

Diagnosing a respiratory virus or bacterial infection in the throat is important because it may enable a doctor to prescribe treatments that can both reduce the severity of symptoms the duration of illness.

Influenza A or B, COVID-19, and Strep A confirmed by testing supports the optimal prescribing of medication, which shorten the duration and severity of symptoms, and reduce complications and likelihood of spreading the illness to others.

Influenza A/B, COVID-19, Strep Throat, and the common cold have many overlapping symptoms. We recommend that you test yourself if you are experiencing the following symptoms:
  • fever
  • cough
  • muscle aches and pain
  • chills
  • fatigue (tiredness)
  • loss of appetite
  • sore throat
  • runny or stuffy nose

Additional symptoms for children:
  • not drinking or eating as usual
  • not waking up or interacting with others irritable (not wanting to play or be held)
  • diarrhea
  • nausea and vomiting

The tests included in the Cold & Flu Rescue Kit perform best when used on people who have symptoms that are likely to be caused by the specific target microbe (virus or bacteria). Therefore, Rockdoc recommends that only symptomatic people, meaning people experiencing any of the symptoms listed HERE test themselves using the Cold & Flu Rescue Kit.

If you are not experiencing any cold or flu symptoms when you use the Cold & Flu Rescue Kit, it may be less sensitive, meaning you could have a cold or flu but the test might not identify the low virus level in your body. However, if the test does report a positive result, it is likely that the result is correct and you do have the virus in your body.

There is no minimum age for the Flu A/B + COVID-19 and Strep A rapid tests. These tests are gentle and safe for any age.

For children who may be resistant to a nasal or oral swab, our telehealth practitioners will support you through two attempts to administer the tests. It is the responsibility of the parent to know if the child can complete the test prior to purchase. If one of both of the tests cannot be completed no refund will be issued.

No. Since there is such a large overlap in symptoms between Influenza A/B, Covid-19 and Strep A, especially early in the course of the illness, Rockdoc’s Cold & Flu Rescue Kit was intentionally designed to test for all four. It is important to test early when there is symptom overlap, because the earlier you can identify which of these microbes is causing your illness, the earlier you can receive the correct treatment to reduce the severity of symptoms and shorten the duration of illness. The earlier you start treatment, the more effective the treatments are.
